FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Can I compete with more than one animal in a competition?
Yes.  You can compete with as many animals as you like.  An individual animal can only be entered once per competition.
For each animal that you compete with, you must provide a completed and signed entry form, a cashier’s check or money order in the proper amount of the entry fee, photographs identifying the animal, and age verification complying with VBBI’s    Rules and Regulations.

2. Can I video multiple trips of my animal bucking?
Yes.  However, only one video per animal can be entered into the competition.  Therefore, you must determine the best footage you recorded during the Competition Period and enter that particular footage in the competition.  The first video of an animal received by the VBBI   that complies with the VBBI’s Rules and Regulations will be the only video eligible for competition.  There are no exceptions to this rule.  Please note that if a participant submits a video that does not comply with the VBBI’s Rules and Regulations, he/she can resubmit another video if the video is submitted within the Video Submission Deadline.

3. What is the Competition Period?
The Competition Period is the period during which you must record video footage of your animal bucking.  For example, if the VBBI   posts that the Competition Period is from March 1, 2008 to March 14, 2008, you must get video footage of your animal during this period.  Only footage recorded during the Competition Period is eligible for competition.

4. How do we know that people will not submit old videos and videos not recorded during the Competition Period?
After the deadline entry ends, the VBBI    will post a four-digit code on its website.  All participants must write the four-digit code in black marker and affix the code to the front of the bucking chute.   A video submission must show VBBI’s four-digit code or it is not eligible for competition.  Please note, however, that video footage taken during an ABBI or VBBI event during the Competition Period is excused from posting the four-digit identification code on the bucking chute.  See the VBBI’s Rules and Regulations under the heading “OTHER COMPETITIONS” for full details.

5. What happens if I do not get good video footage of my animal bucking during the Competition Period?
Better luck next time.  If the video is of poor quality or if your animal did not perform well, you will have the opportunity to compete again soon.

6. Can I shoot video from more than one angle?
Yes.  However, only video footage taken from one angle will be judged.  In other words, you can have three cameras recording footage.  While you cannot merge all three videos to complete a six second video, you can select the footage from the best angle and submit it for competition.

7. Can the judges replay the videos multiple times or in slow motion to determine their scores?
Absolutely.  The objective is to determine the animal that bucked the best during the Competition Period.  Judges are not required to view the videos multiple times or in slow motion, but the option is available.

8. Why should I compete in a VBBI     futurity?
Because you can win more money, incur less expense, and can participate from your own backyard.

9. What happens if I mess up on my application form?
The VBBI    will attempt to notify all potential participants of any deficiencies in his/her application so that the deficiency(ies) may be corrected prior to the application deadline.  Once the application deadline expires, all applications that are not completed correctly will be returned and the applicant will receive a refund of their entry fee.

10. Why do I have to take three seconds of video of my animal in the chute?
There are two reasons.  First, if a video submission does not show the animal leaving the chute, the video is ineligible for competition and the applicant forfeits his/her entry fees.  Second, the two or three seconds of footage taken prior to the animal leaving the bucking chute will assist the VBBI    in detecting any possible violations of the Rules and Regulations, such as the use of electrical stimulation.

11. What happens if I only get 5.9 seconds of video footage of my two year old bull bucking with a dummy?
Your video does not comply with the Rules and Regulations and you forfeit your entry fees.  To make the competition fair, animals must be judged based upon the same time of performance.

12. Why must I continue videoing my animal for five seconds after the bucking is completed?
To assist the VBBI    in identifying the animal in the video.

13. How does the VBBI     deal with ties?
The VBBI    does not have a tie-breaker system.  If multiple animals receive the same cumulative score, a straight split will be applied.

14. Must I turn the timer feature on during my recording of video footage?
No.  The VBBI    encourages participants to record video footage with the timer operable.  The VBBI does not require a timer to be displayed on the video submission because some newer cameras do not translate the timer to the video submission.  The VBBI's four digit authentication code will prevent participants from using video submissions not recorded during the Competition Period.

15. Are there any limits to the number of entries in a futurity?
No.  The more the merrier.

16. Can I edit my video to speed it up or slow it down?
No.  A video that is edited or altered to enhance an animal’s performance violates VBBI’s    Rules and Regulations and is ineligible to compete.  A judge may watch a video in slow motion if he/she wishes to do so.

17. If my bull has an EID tag, will that satisfy the age verification requirement?
Yes.  If a bull has been mouthed as eligible to compete in the ABBI, he is eligible to compete in the VBBI   .

18. Does my animal have to be registered to compete in the VBBI    ?
No.  VBBI   events are open events unless stated otherwise.  IMPORTANT NOTE.  In the near future, the VBBI intends to require all animals to be registered with the ABBI to compete in the VBBI.  The VBBI encourages members to register all animals they intend to compete with as soon as possible.

19. Do I have to be a member of the VBBI     to compete in the VBBI?
Yes.  However, all participants competing in the March 15, 2008 VBBI    Futurity will receive a free membership for the year 2008.

20. What are the benefits of being a VBBI     member?
VBBI    members can participate in VBBI futurities.  VBBI members also can vote on issues submitted for a membership vote.

21. What happens if my application is lost?
All applications for a futurity must be completed correctly and include all of the required information to be eligible to compete.  If your application is lost, you can resubmit an application up until the application deadline.  Any applications received after the application deadline will be returned.

22. What happens if after the application deadline I am unable to buck my animal due to the weather or my bull dies?
Unfortunately, your entry fee will be forfeited.  You can withdraw from a VBBI    event and receive a full refund at any time prior to the end of the application deadline.  Once the application deadline expires and the Competition Period begins, you are entered in the competition and must provide a video submission.  This rule is in place to prevent participants from withdrawing from a competition because their animal’s performance was substandard.  The VBBI encourages participants to obtain video footage of their bull early in the Competition Period to avoid any weather-related problems.

23. Will I be able to view all of the video submissions that I am competing against?
Yes. After the results are revealed, the VBBI    will post all videos entered in the competition on its website under the tab “Present Event.”

24. When will I find out the results of a VBBI     futurity?
The VBBI’s   website will provide the date and time the results will be made available.  We hope that you will tune into the Breeders Connection to view the results as they are announced.

25. Will the VBBI     return to a copy of my video submission to me at the end of the competition?
No.  The VBBI   encourages participants to email video submissions to VBBI at videofuturity@yahoo.com.  If participants elect to send a hard copy, the VBBI encourages participants to make a copy of the video for his/her records.

26. Do I have to use a certain type of dummy?
Yes.  Please check the VBBI’s    website for a list of approved dummies.

27. Can I buck a clone in a VBBI     event?
No.  If it is proven that a clone was bucked in a VBBI    event, all winnings and entry fees will be forfeited.

28. Do I have any recourse if my video submission is disqualified?
Yes.  If you believe that your video submission was wrongfully disqualified, you can appeal the decision to VBBI’s   Rules Compliance Committee provided you do so within 3 business days of being notified of the disqualification.  Your appeal must be submitted to the VBBI, must be in writing, and must state the reasons why you believe the disqualification was improper.  The Rules Compliance Committee will make an independent determination based upon a majority vote.  You can appeal a decision made by the Rules Compliance Committee (RCC) to VBBI’s Board of Directors provided your appeal is made within 3 business days after notice of the RCC’s decision.  VBBI’s Board of Director’s decision will be based on a majority vote and will be final, unless the Board of Directors puts the issue to a VBBI membership vote.

An appeal concerning a video submission disqualified because the video was altered or edited to enhance the performance of an animal must be submitted directly to the VBBI’s   Board of Directors.  An appeal must be made in writing to the VBBI’s Board of Directors within three business days after the disqualification.  The VBBI’s Board of Directors will confer with another independent professional to determine whether or not the disqualified video submission was altered or edited to enhance the performance of any animal.  The member appealing the decision will be responsible for the cost of the professional’s review of the video submission.  The Board of Directors will issue a ruling on the appeal.  The Board of Directors’ decision will be final.

29. Do I have to video the flank that was used on my animal?
Yes.  Each video submission must show close-up video of the flank that was used on the animal and the person holding the flank must run his/her hand up and down the flank to demonstrate that the flank does not have any illegal substances or items affixed to it.  The footage must be taken immediately prior to the flank being placed on the animal or immediately after the flank is removed from the animal.

30. What is the bucking time for the VBBI’s      yearling events?
A video submission must contain at least four (4) seconds of the yearling animal bucking with a dummy.  A video submission containing 3.9 seconds or less of bucking time with a dummy will be disqualified.

31. When does the bucking time begin for purposes of calculating how long to leave the dummy on?
The bucking time begins when the animal brakes the plane of the bucking chute.

32. Can I enter a VBBI     event with video footage taken during an ABBI or NBBA event?
Yes, provided the footage is taken during the VBBI’s    Competition Period.  Please check the VBBI’s Rules and Regulations under the heading “OTHER COMPETITIONS” for the guidelines in doing so.

33. Can I late enter an animal in a VBBI     competition?
Yes.  However, you must pay a late entry penalty, which is equal to the entry fee, and must use a separate four-digit authentication code.  See the VBBI’s     Rules and Regulations heading “LATE ENTRY” for full details.
