The VBBI is pleased to present the first online video futurity competition. Our online video futurities have numerous advantages over standard futurities, including eliminating traveling and traveling costs, reducing the stress of hauling calves, allowing participation from all over the world, and, most importantly, higher purses.
Here is how the VBBI’s online video futurity system works. Participants submit a six second video of their animal bucking with a VBBI approved dummy. The video must show the animal leaving the chute and must show six seconds of action. The participant forwards a copy of the video to the VBBI, which collects all video submissions. The VBBI judges score the videos based on buck, kick, spin, degree of difficulty, and athleticism. The animal with the highest cumulative score wins the competition. Participants tune into the Breeders’ Connection to watch the results and see who wins the big money.
Those wanting to participate must complete a VBBI application . To be eligible to compete, each participant must provide the following within the posted application deadline: (1) a completed and signed entry form; (2) a cashier’s check or money order in the proper amount of the entry fee; (3) photographs identifying the animal to compete in the futurity, including a photograph of the animal’s head and a side profile identifying, to the extent possible, the animal’s permanent brand numbers; and (4) documents verifying the age of the animal competing (see for age verification requirements). After the application deadline expires, participants must record footage of the entered animal bucking during the Competition Period, which will generally be from 10-14 days. The VBBI will post the dates comprising the Competition Period prior to accepting applications for the futurity.
To be eligible to compete, the footage recorded must include: (1) the VBBI’s four digit code affixed to the bucking chute (to ensure the video is taken during the Competition Period, the VBBI will post a four-digit code on the VBBI’s website); (2) at least three seconds of video footage taken immediately prior to the animal leaving the bucking chute; (3) at least six continuous seconds of video footage of the animal with a dummy on after the animals leaves the chute (only the first six seconds will be scored by the judges); (4) five seconds of footage after the animal stops bucking to assist the VBBI in identifying the animal shown in the footage; and (5) close-up footage of the flank that was used on the animal in the footage, including footage of the person who flanked the animal running their hand the length of the flank (footage can be taken immediately prior to flanking the bull or immediately after the flank is removed from the bull).
After recording the video footage, the participant must forward a copy of the video footage to the VBBI in accordance with the instructions posted on the VBBI's website. Participants can either provide the VBBI with a hard copy of the video footage or email the footage to videofuturity@yahoo.com. Only one video can be submitted per entry. The first video received by the VBBI is the video that will be judged. There are no exceptions to this rule. Only those video submissions received by the VBBI’s posted Video Submission Deadline will be eligible to compete in the futurity. The VBBI will collect all video submissions that comply with the VBBI’s Rules and Regulations for judging. All complying videos will be posted on the VBBI’s website. The VBBI’s judges, who will be identified prior to the application period, will judge the video submissions based on buck, kick, spin, degree of difficulty, and athleticism. The animal that receives the highest cumulative score will be declared the winner. The VBBI will post the winning entries on the Breeders’ Connection in descending order until the winner is revealed. At the conclusion of the announcement of the winners, all videos entered in the competition will be available for everyone to view under the heading “Present Event,” and the score sheet will be posted under the heading “Results.” The placing videos will be reviewed by an independent expert to ensure that the videos were not altered or edited to enhance the performance of the animal in the video. All winners will then be mailed their winnings.
Please read VBBI’s Rules and Regulations so that you can participate. See VBBI’s section for additional questions and answers.
